It wasn't a warm an fuzzy type book and that's ok I like dark books but this isnt just dark it was weird for me! I didn't care much for any of the characters and the flow was just kind of blah! I usually LOVE Pepper Winters books but for me this one just didn't fit for me.Fox is CRAZY and a badazz that owns a fighting club! Nobody messes with Fox. Hazel comes to the fight club with her friend because her boyfriend is fighting and she tricks Hazel into coming out for the night getting a break from taking care of her sick kiddo ...and she never really leaves, uh yeah exactly what Im thinking. So Hazel Hazel Hazel, I cannot stand you!!!! You are not a good mother to a very very sick child in my world, so glad this is fiction...but even with that I do not like you Hazel. As bad of a guy that Fox is I understand why he is bad he has many reasons but her no I don't buy into that part of the story. Sad things happen very sad things, yes I did cry but then I was like why am I even still reading this, well because even though it's the very bottom of the barrel for me of a Pepper Winters book well it's a Pepper Winters book so I wanted to finish it but I certainly didn't favor it by far....in the end we do kind of get a HEA so that is good thankfully it is a stand alone and Fox even redeems himself and I guess even Hazel starts being not so stupid! So yeah the three star rating is because I didn't really like this story nor did I really buy the idea of the story, its just what I said in the beginning Blah for me, many others may love it, I just didn't...

The first books I read by this author was Monsters in the Dark. I loved Q and Tess. So, I wanted to go and see what she have more. And I found Destroyed.
I like to read reviews. And I like to have some spoilers. They help me a lot of time to decide, if I want to read that book now, a little later or not at all.
So, on , I come upon review, which dosn't give much of prise to this story. I hesistated. Especially, when reviewer mentioned, that he loved Tears of Tess and this book was...low.
But, temptation won and I got it & read. And I found that I don't agree with a lot of other reviewers point of view. The story wasn't so bad. I didn't loved it as much as MitD trilogy, but story draw you in and you just need to know whats next. I would really recommend this book, if you're into dark parts in our lifes. That sometimes we have no clue, those things exist.
Hazel is brave, courageous and loyal. Shes the kind of girl who knows the bad side of the world and knows how to survive it. But the heartbreak coming her way...Hazel just doesn't know how she will survive it. It will shatter her little world.
And one night, thanks to her bestie, Hazel meets him. Obsidian Fox. And he changes and evokes so new emotions. But despite those emotions, Hazel dosn't have time for this. Not mentioning, she feels hes dark, dangerous, with a lot of scars on his soul. She just didn't guessed at first, how much his soul was damaged.
But Fox don't think of letting her go that easily.
Fox childhood was...You ever saw movie Hitman or tv series Dark Angel? Well, his life was much much worse. He had to do, to kill...All those things fragmented him, until Fox soul become unrecognizable. Even to him. He knows he dosn't deserve forgiveness.
But one night he meets her. Hazel. For the first time in his life all kind of emotions attacks him. For the first time in his life, he desires a woman. He knows deep inside, she is his salvation. So, he wouldn't let her go. Even if he should.
Its sounds simple, but it's anything but a simple situation. Fox is so damaged, that sometimes he can't help but become a Ghost. A 'thing', a killing machine, that they created to service for them. And when he becomes Ghost, he hurts all who is around him. The persons who dared to touch him. And Hazel touched him. So, he hurt her. More than once.
So, here you will think, that Hazel is stupid woman. Why she stay with him after he almost kills her? Shes so depraved, hungry to someone love her, that shes okay, when shes been hurt? Its so simple. Man hurts you, you need to leave him and never look back. Those questions and beliefs would be in your head now.
But...Sometimes life is not that easy. You disagree with me? Well, then lets go through few things.
Yes, on most times, I would agree, with beliefs above. But this time, it's not most of the times. Fox is not a malicious person. He gets no pleasure hurting. Well innocent ones. There is some who deserves it.
Fox hurting other comes from other form. He was conditioned. And no matter what, Fox can't break it. So, he so much clings to Hazel. And on the same time he pushes her away. Because he knows, she could help him, but thats costing him too much. Because when he hurts Hazel, he gots much worse bruises on his already damaged soul.
Fox can't help with his conditioning. When that kind of thing, was hammered into his head over 20 years, he can't lose it in just a few sweet, sexy days. It's needs time and patience. Which Hazel offers at the beginning, but at the end she has enough. And she wants to leave.
But, fate having her own plans.
What fallows is heartbreaking in more than one way. It has sweet, heartfelt moments. Which got for a short time overshadowed by shattering pain, guilt, betrayal...Revenge.
At the end, will Fox and Hazel can find theirs redemption and salvation in each other? Or dark thoughts and past gonna be stronger and win over those beautuful fragile emotion?
This was a first time read for me by this author. I can't decide if her writing style is for me or if it was just this title that didn't ring my bells. I enjoy a dark tale but this one left me with too many questions.
Zel did my head in with her "I'll fix you / I'll kill you" flipping. The male protagonist struck a cord with me with his brokenness and the dying child, well, she really was the glue of this story.
I found certain parts of this story very random and didn't ring true for me. For instances he was kidnapped, killed his entire family yet gained access to their wealth? His relationship with Oscar and the whole artwork scene? The build up made me think there was going to be more from Oscar and Ben, is there? Why'd they not live on the property with the horse instead of the beach house?
The locations mentioned in the book made me think Ms. Winters is a local and I like to support fellow Aussies so I intend to read more of her work.

UNTIL, he met her. Hazel, a woman with her own dark secrets, a daughter dying of cancer and then one night they made a deal together that could DESTROY them

Pepper Winters, you never cease to amaze me , YOU are the QUEEN OF DARKNESS, but yet here you are writing yet another Awesome ASS book that has touched me on so many levels of emotions , for one , my heart and soul. I am left speechless , bawling like a baby. The strength you gave Hazel, amazed me and tormented at the same time, she gave new meaning to Heroine...I love how you give each of your Heroine's the strength of 10 men, they love , honor , and cherish with a love, like no other. Giving this book a 5 star rating is not enough this a perfect 10 star rating book, it was hard for me to put it down .
I will recommend this to everyone, but it does come with a warning label, the love scenes are explicit and VERY steamy and it is A DARK read, but if this want you like , you should DEFINITELY read it .
I absolutely loved this book and am going back for more.
